  • Ride from birmingham to key west

ANOTHER CLUB MEMBER AND I ARE PLANNING A RIDE TO KEY WEST, FL BEGINNING THE MORNING OF APRIL 17, 2009. WE PLAN TO DEPART KEY WEST ON APRIL 22, 2009. ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO JOIN US WOULD BE WELCOMED TO PARTICIPATE. WE PERSONALLY DO NOT PLAN OVERNIGHTING IN TENTS; HOWEVER, IF ANYONE DOES, WE CAN FIND A MOTEL CLOSE TO A PLACE SUITABLE FOR SOMEONE TO SET UP A TENT.

WE WOULD LIKE TO AVOID INTERSTATES AS BEST POSSIBLE. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A GOOD ROUTE TO TAKE?

Wow Jerryl sounds like a nice ride indeed. Unfortunately I cannot go but you may consider a ride down along the west coast of Florida starting near Panama City and down through Port St. Joe and Appalachicola. They call it the "forgotten coast" and it is pretty cool! Lots of good eating down through there!

You MUST stop in Apalachicola for oysters. No matter how you like them, raw, steamed or fried, they are worth stopping for.

You are right about that Remy.

If you go that way, The Gibson Inn is one of the most enjoyable places to stay in the Gulf Coast and Boss Oyster is my favorite oyster joint in the country. If you do not like oysters, their other seafood dishes are excellent.

Here is a good route from Applach. to Key Largo then to Key West which avoids most of the conjested traffic areas in south Florida and routes you on the fun Tamiami Trail to the east coast toward Key Largo. From Key Largo, take Hwy 1 to Key West.

                  Ride to key west

We would be glad for you to join us. David and I are meeting our wives in Key West. We plan on returning on April 23rd. I see that Bogart's is hosting a meeting of the BMW club on March 14. Will you be in attendance?
